Hyacinth Bucket ('Bouquet') played by Patricia Routledge, devotes most of her time maintaining 'standards' and trying to impress. Richard played by Clive Swift, is her long suffering husband. He puts up with Hyacinth and her strange ways in order to keep the peace.

Hyacinth's sister Daisy is played by Judy Cornwell and is married to Onslow played by Geoffrey Hughes. They both live in a council house on a council estate far from the standards of Hyacinth.

The show is filmed in and around the town of Leamington Spa in Warwickshire .
