This period rom-com, set in 1985, stars James McAvoy (pictured, left) as Brian Jackson, a 1980s working-class boy stumbling romantically and academically through his first year at Bristol University.
Amid the chaos, Brian achieves his lifelong ambition to appear on TV quiz show University Challenge, falling for team-mate Alice (Alice Eve), although he may have more in commmon with his counterculturalist chum, Rebecca (Rebecca Hall).
Adapted by David Nicholls from his best-selling novel, the performances are strong, and there's a tremendous period soundtrack. Highly recommended.
