Series 8 of Still Game has, like the seven series before it, had a large proportion of non-studio filming. The majority of these have been in and around Glasgow, with one specific episode taking the cast and crew out of the city to the west coast, with almost all the action centring on the seaside getaway.
Where is Craiglang?
The fictional town of Craiglang has largely focused on the Maryhill area of Glasgow. In spite of the decade-long gap between the sixth and seventh series, the regular locations all featured in Series 7. They’re back again in Series 8 with all the favourites cropping up, such as Jack and Victor's flat of Osprey Heights. The Osprey Heights filming location is actually the tower block on Collina Street which overlooks the locks of the River Kelvin.
Navid's shop also features in several episodes - the exterior used is the Townhead Shops near Kennedy Street in east Glasgow, as has been used in every series of Still Game to date.
The Clansman hasn't been quite so consistent over the history of the programme. Series 1-4 used an actual pub called The Gimlet, but this was demolished before Series 5 started. Since then several purpose-built sets have been used, and for Series 8, Still Game’s Clansman set was built made use of in the grounds of Dumbarton BBC Studios. The outline of the building can be seen, albeit blurry, on google maps satellite view.
Balls Up - The Football Tournament
The focus of episode 3, Balls Up, was the over 50s football tournament. The University of Glasgow’s Garscube Sports Complex (in where else but Maryhill) was used as the setting for their sporty antics. Even Isa gives the beautiful game a go – though with more gabbing than goalkeeping.
South Africa – The Caravan Park
Still Game’s Jack, Victor and Winston haven’t been seen at the coast since they discovered the delights (or otherwise) of Finport. This trip turns out differently when they make use of Navid’s caravan by the coast.
The caravan park filming location is Skelmorlie Mains Caravan Park which boasts stunning views of the Clyde – they’re not wrong, as you can see onscreen.
The nearby town Winston calls into for a pint or several is Gourock, and the bar does indeed exist in real life.
Pie – The Butcher’s Shop
In an episode that harks back to Winston and Peggy’s butcher’s shop stand-off, Jack and Victor join the race to buy a coveted pie but events take an unexpected turn.
The butcher’s shop location shoot became unexpectedly famous in 2017 when a passer-by tried to join the characters in the queue.
B&A Johnson Butchers provided the sharp-elbowed OAPs with this all too convincing filming location. Look out for the River Kelvin Locks too – they’re the setting of Peggy making a grab for the coveted pie.
The Fall Guy - Airport
In the opening scenes of The Fall Guy, Tam and Isa wait for Callum in an airport. It’s not actually Glasgow or Prestwick, but a location already familiar to some Still Game fans – The SSE Hydro, the events centre which hosted Still Game Live which helped bring about the Craiglang crew’s TV comeback.
